Phil crockett recently came up with a way to lock a door by modifying a dinner fork.
Diy door lock with fork.
All you need to assemble this diy project is a dinner fork with two inch prongs a vice and a saw.
In this tutorial i will show you how you can make a improvised door lock out of a old fork.
This lock only works when you re in the room and won t prevent a forced entry but it s likely to prevent accidental unwanted guests while you re in your room.
If the vice is pretty tight you ll have no issues bending this fork.
Go ahead and shut that door.
Take a large hammer and give the fork a couple of good swings to bend the prongs all the way down up to a 90 degree angle.
Try a fun creative lock by making your own with just a simple fork.
Ensure that the handle fits right in between one of the prongs this is important for the locking mechanism.
The handle of the fork should be able to fit in between the prongs of the fork.
Apr 12 2015 need to replace the lock on your door.
An ordinary dinner fork could protect you while you re at home or traveling the next time you re traveling and need an easy and portable door lock try using a broken metal fork.
Of course most places you ll stay already have a lock.
The next step is to cut off the handle of the fork with a metal saw or something else that is able to cut through the material.
Check out the video to see it in action.
To use it you just slide the wedge under the door and elevate it with the screw until the door is solidly wedged.
Some folks may have seen his earlier video called portable door lock which he made from flat 1 8 steel but if you are a regular person you are not going to have some steel jut laying around.
It is a solid wedge of aluminum with a hardened steel adjustment and anti slip screw.
Take those bent prongs and insert them into the latch hole.
