Metal box springs are also available for people with allergies or those who want to keep their box spring for years to come. Box springs are designed for use with innerspring beds and some models do not provide the same type of rigid support needed for a foam bed. Just like you need a mattress to support your body the mattress needs a box spring to ensure its longevity. Most modern mattresses including mattresses in a box do not require a box spring.
